Kartik Ranganathan – Performance Analyst

Kartik Ranganathan shares his experience of being a Performance Analyst, what the job entails, and the tools needed for the role…

What does your role entail?

I enable capabilities for analytics and set up monitoring tools, build dashboards, measure KPl’s and performance. I also work with scrum teams, identifying any production issues and collaborating with them on resolutions.

What does a typical day look like for you?

I’m part of a scrum team on two different projects. The day begins with a Stand-Up meeting followed by priority based tasks, which could include: any live service issues, ministerial

complaints, tribunal requests, dashboard builds and migration of data – to name a few!

What sort of clients have you worked with?

I’ve worked with lots of different clients, past private sector clients include HSBC, Virgin Media and Sky.

What’s the best bit about your job?

The part that I love about my role is that there is flexibility to learn and implement at the same time. Both the Mercator team and HMRC have given me the opportunity to develop the tools and skills needed for my role and to implement them based on the requirement.

What’s Mercator Digital like to work for?

When I was interviewing with Mercator for the role, I was all praise for my previous employer about employee engagement and learning. I have now been with Mercator for just over 9 months and I’m already beginning to learn that I’ve moved from a good company to a great company. Right from the warm welcome to the cascading of information, the entire setup makes you feel at home (quite literally).

Any advice for people wanting a job like yours?

If you’re passionate about data and have the eye to capture and analyse any piece of

Information for what it isn’t – then you’re the right sort of person to get into the role of a

Performance Analyst. Being able to use various querying languages helps, a core tool will certainly be SQL and then, with a positive attitude, you can build from there.
