Jack Haynes – Engagement Manager

Jack Haynes gives a quick insight on being an Engagement Manager – what the role entails, the best bits about the job and top tips for anyone interested in the role…

What does your role entail?

I Aid the delivery of our projects, help out with pastoral issues and ensure people are feeling happy and productive.

What does a typical day look like for you?

I work very closely with my fellow Engagement Managers alongside our Service Delivery Director and Service Delivery Manager to keep people and projects on track. I also conduct interviews with our Technical Consultants, help onboard new joiners and check in with the team to see if there is anything they need assistance with, ensuring their jobs are as straightforward, satisfying and enjoyable as possible.

What sort of clients have you worked with?

I’ve worked with lots of different clients – from public sector clients (working on digital transformation) to private sector clients (working within the cloud and security architecture space) and I also help look after our storage specialists too.

What’s the best bit about your job?

Helping people is the best part of my job. I am either interacting with people who aren’t in a role and are looking to get into one; currently in a role elsewhere but looking for a more fulfilling one; or currently in a role with us and working with them to remove blockers and improve their working day. All three scenarios have very tangible and very rewarding outcomes.

What’s Mercator Digital like to work for?

There are so many reasons that Mercator is a great place to work, but for me it’s about the camaraderie, flexibility and transparency – all three are exceptional.

Any advice for people wanting a job like yours?

Try to be as proactive as possible, keep asking questions and remember that picking up the phone is still sometimes the quickest and easiest way to get something done!
