Aimee Fulton – User Researcher

Aimee Fulton gives us her insight into being a User Researcher, what the job involves and advice for anyone interested in the role…

What does your role entail?

As a User Researcher I am the voice of the user. I am an integral part of the multi-disciplinary team responsible for the design and delivery of great services.

What does a typical day look like for you?

My day is always really varied. I can either be planning the research (which means lots of meetings), facilitating (which involves speaking with lots of really interesting people to understand their needs for the service we are building) or analysing and reporting our findings (to our team and stakeholders).

What’s the best bit about your job?

I am lucky enough that my job means I get to meet lots of different people from all different backgrounds which I love doing. My main objective is to help ensure their voice is heard, which is really satisfying.

What’s Mercator Digital like to work for?

Mercator is a fantastic place to work because of the family-like vibe. Everyone from all areas of the team are super approachable and always happy to help.

Any advice for people wanting a job like yours?

There can be a real lack of opportunity for people trying to get in to the profession so the most important thing is to never give up, even when you’re feeling like you’re getting nowhere. I always believe that what’s for me wouldn’t go by me. Also, reach out, network and ask whenever you’re feeling stuck, you’ll find people are super kind and always willing to help.
